The Mausoleum of Hazrat Ali (A.S.) at Jogipura, India known as Najaf-e-Hind
Syed Allaouddin Bukhari ,the father of Syed Raju ,was Deewan ,during the reign of Shah Jahan (1627-1658). He was held in reverence in the royal court due to his noble behavior and personal ability. After his death, his son Syed Raju was assigned the post of his deceased father. During Mughal period some of the nobles were counted among the most learned sages of their time. Syed Raju was empiricist learned sage, besides being devout, pious, and God-Fearing person. These qualities of Syed Raju had made him so significant in the eyes of Shah Jahan that he entrusted him the responsibility of supervising and protecting his palace.
In 1658 during the life of Shah Jahan, his son Aurangzeb, along his brother Shuja and Murad, mobilized the forces and attacked and defeated the Royal Army of Shah Jahan and ordered the blockade of the Agra fort, imposed restriction on the supply of food and water and virtually occupied the fort, Aurangzeb violating all the normative tenets of political rule, declared himself the ruler, not only dismissing his father as king but also arresting and imprisoning him, without paying least consideration to the specific instruction of the Holy Quran concerning the highest respect and regards to parents; “The Lord had decreed that worship none but him, and that be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt in terms of honour and out of kindness, lower to them the wings of humility and say: “My Lord bestow on them Thy Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood”.
Devout, pious and God-fearing Syed Raju could not stand such unethical and religiously unlawful behavior of Aurangzeb. Earlier he had been trying in his own way to oppose his such action and behavior even at the cost of endangering his own life. But it was now too much to bear such happening any longer. It so seemed as if the situation had completely gone out of his hand. So he left Agra and returned to his native place, Jogipura near Najibabad in Bijnor District. Since Syed Raju was a holy man, God helped him. After reaching Jogipura, he started daily practice of invocation to attain conjunction and nearness to Fourteen Masoomeen (A.S.). He particularly aspired to seek help from Hazrat Ali (A.S.) who carry a conviction among his faithful to be the “Solution list of difficulties “(Mushkil- Kusha).Syed Raju, with all sincerity and devotion and concentration of mind, engaged himself in supplication of “O Ali (A.S.), Reach To My Help.(Ya Ali Adrikni).
This Practice continued in a forest, nearby Jogipura where he reached daily early in the morning and returned back in the evening. Incidentally, one day he missed to reach the forest. An old Brahmin, resident of the same village, was cutting grass in the forest. At noon he heard the sound of in-coming horses. He who was aware of the affairs of Syed Raju and guessed that perhaps the royal army was coming to arrest him. The moment he decided to leave the place, he found to his dismay that a cavalryman was standing before him, enquiring who was he? He trembling with fear, introduced himself that he was a poor Brahmin and came here to cut the grass. The cavalryman said that my chief wants to meet you, when the Brahmin reached there, he saw a youth, manifesting his luminous face through his veil, was sitting on the horse, surrounded by his cavalrymen the chief himself addressed the Brahmin: “Don’t be afraid. Go immediately to Syed Raju and tell him that “he whom you used to remember day and night, has come today, and convey my message to Syed Raju that no one can harm him. Tell him to reach me alone and immediately before it may be too late. Tell him also that I like this place and if possible erect a mausoleum in my name”. The Brahmin said: “O Mighty Person my eye-sight is very weak due to my old age. So I cannot reach Syed Raju immediately” the chief said: “close your eyes and open them”.
When he opened his eyes, he felt that like youthful days the eyesight had returned back. Brahmin raced, happily, towards the house of Syed Raju and knocked at his door. When Syed Raju came out, he narrated the whole episode, listening which he was about the collapse with rejoice. At a spur of moment he ran towards the forest barefooted with much excitement and enthusiasm. Seeing Syed Raju, running in this way as if in some emergency, some people accompanied him. Although, while running, he continued to dissuade others, not to accompany him, but no one paid any heed. When Syed Raju along with his companions reach the place he found no body, except the horse froth and the impression of his four hooves. Syed Raju protected and surrounded, immediately, the place, containing the froth and the impression of hooves and constructed a platform and thus laid the foundation of mausoleum in the name of Hazrat Ali (A.S.). This place became famous as Najaf-e-Hind and every year hundreds of thousand Muslims come for the Ziyarah of the mausoleum in the name of Hazrat Ali (A.S.).
